Election Violence Videos
The Post Election violence in Kenya began right after the December 2007 election results were announced. The election was peaceful but after the results were announced and Kibaki was declared the winner, the violence broke. President Kibaki’s Party of National Unity (PNU) and Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) pointed fingers at each other with accusations of rigging that may have occurred.
The legitimacy of the quickly sworn in government was soon in question and mass protests by ODM supporters erupted. January was the beginning of a new face of Kenya. The whole world witnessed the violence that broke out, with thousands of lives lost, billions worth of property damaged, millions internally displaced and the economic standstill that ensued. Many Kenyans have suffered and we would like to come together and answer the unheard cries of the Kenyan people. Below are some of the videos taken during the violence.

CHEN: Reports of witches in Kenya resulted in eleven people being burned to death. Eight women and three men were attacked by an angry mob and set on fire. The attacks took place in an area of west Kenya where suspicion of witchcraft runs deep. Police have drafted extra security forces into Kisii district to prevent revenge attacks—this in a region already reeling from tribal killings during Kenya's post-election crisis. STORY: Burned alive - the charred corpses of 11 elderly Kenyan villagers accused of practising witchcraft. Neighbours described how a mob, armed with a list of suspected witches, descended on the village in western Kenya. Their victims - 8 women and 3 men - were set alight, one by one. Pastor Enock Obiero's wife was among the victims. [Enocj Obiero, Bereaved Pastor]: "My child told me she didn't know where her mother was as she thought she'd run away. I asked her where, as I didn't see her from where I'd hidden myself. It seems she never left the house." Traditional African beliefs, Christianity and Islam co-exist peacefully in Kenya. But there's widespread suspicion of sorcery, particularly in west Kenya, which has a long tradition of witch doctors and faith healers. The police are appealing for calm. Extra police have been deployed in the region to prevent further bloodletting. The region is still recovering from the tribal violence that convulsed Kenya earlier this year following the country's disputed elections.

During the chaos, women and even children were targeted for rape and sexual assault in the country's slums, refugee camps and even in schools. It's something a new power-sharing government has pledged to investigate. Yvonne Ndege has been talking with some of the victims.

Directed and edited by Prince R. Makaya this is the official Daima video. Instead of the typical landscapes, scenery, wildlife, etc Eric decided to go with a much simpler concept for this video - highlight the future of Kenya - the children. Eric chose to work with Shangilia kids to make this video soon after the post-election violence of 2007. The voices of the kids are mixed in with Eric's original track. This patriotic song was used extensively to bring back sanity to a beautiful land that was rapidly consuming itself after the 2007elections. The video is on Eric's music video DVD called "Daima: The Music Videos" that has been on sale for some time now. The DVD also includes some of Eric's most notable songs such as "Nchi ya Kitu Kidogo", "Dunia ina Mambo", "Ukweli", "Sawa Sawa" amongst others. On the DVD are a number of bonus videos so don't just download - get an authentic copy. DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Apartheid was a system of legal racial segregation enforced by the National Party government of South Africa between 1948 and 1994, under which the rights of the majority 'non-white' inhabitants of South Africa were curtailed and minority rule by white people was maintained. The government of South Africa also practiced the same discriminatory policies while occupying South West Africa, known after 1966 as Namibia. Racial segregation in South Africa began in colonial times. However, apartheid as an official policy was introduced following the general election of 1948. New legislation classified inhabitants into racial groups ("black", "white", "coloured", and "Indian"), and residential areas were segregated, sometimes by means of forced removals. From 1970, black people were deprived of their citizenship, legally becoming citizens of one of ten tribally based self-governing homelands called bantustans, four of which became nominally independent states. The government segregated education, medical care, beaches, and other public services, and provided black people with services inferior to those of white people. Apartheid sparked significant internal resistance and violence as well as a long trade embargo against South Africa. Since the 1950s, a series of popular uprisings and protests were met with the banning of opposition and imprisoning of anti-apartheid leaders. As unrest spread and became more violent, state organizations ...

www.ntv.co.ke The Media Owners Association has called for the immediate resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, head of public service Francis Muthaura and the Post Master General Hussein Ali. Uhuru Kenyatta, Francis Muthaura and Hussein Ali have all been named as part of the six suspected masterminds of the 2008 post election violence, and the media owners now say their continued presence in government is no longer tenable. The three are the only ones of the six that continue to hold top government jobs despite being named suspects in the violence that claimed more than 1000 lives. And as NTV's Nimrod Tabu reports, the Media Owners Association has also expressed deep concern over the prevailing political climate and the apparent stalling of the implementation of the new constitution.
